Hi there. I'm hopeful that I will actually be able to connect to the Mt. View mail system before I return, and this email gets to you before I do. This trip to Paris may be a fateful one. All the usual hotels are booked up because of the Paris auto show, a famous horse race I've already forgotten the name of, and some other hotel-filling event that happens this weekend. This is the one time when it would have helped to stay in somebody's apartment. So they have me at the fabulous Hotel Weha. Well, they almost have me here. I have to stay at three separate flea-bags during my 11-day stay. They're all in Chinatown, or the equivalent thereof. Actually, the Viet Namese population appears to be pushing all the Chinese out--the two communities are continuing their 5,000-year battle even after immigrating to the 13th arrondissement. But I have to admit the place is a good deal. Less expensive, say, than the Paramount Hotel in New York. Guess what: the room is smaller, too. No giant Vermeers over the bead, either. The real thrill will be this weekend. I expect I'll go to the auto show and drool over the new Citroens. It could be a high- risk event, however: all those show-bimbos won't necessarily be ready for my new hair. Will they be able to restrain themselves? A bientot. Dave
